Mayor Lightfoot is committed to making Chicago the most welcoming city in the nation for immigrants and refugees.
For Mayor Lightfoot, Chicago has been a city of hope and opportunity. It is where she grew her career, found success, and started a family. She is committed to ensuring all families, including undocumented immigrants and refugees, can realize their Chicago dreams.
That’s why the Mayor:
- Kept her campaign promise to remove all carve-outs from Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance and end police collaboration with ICE.
- Terminated ICE access to citywide databases.
- Issued an executive order ensuring that benefits, opportunities, and services provided by the city are accessible to all residents, regardless of birth country or citizenship status.
- Prevailed in a lawsuit against former President Trump’s administration that illegally excluded undocumented immigrants from the Census count. The suit led to a more accurate count of all populations, including immigrants.
