Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot released the following statement calling on Rahm Emanuel to allow for transparent and informed consideration of the pension obligation bond proposal.

“Rahm Emanuel proclaimed in 2011 that he would run ‘the most open, accountable, and transparent government that the City of Chicago has ever seen,’ but has failed time and again to incorporate public input into deliberations and decisions. By withholding information about the pension obligation bond proposal from the public and rushing through closed-door briefings with aldermen, Rahm Emanuel has again failed.

“Rahm Emanuel should release a detailed plan for consideration and allow time for an independent analysis, substantive debate in City Council, and multiple public hearings. No alderman should take a vote on this proposal until Rahm Emanuel has slowed down the process and opened it to public scrutiny.”
