Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot issued the following statement in response to the news that a judge has granted an injunction to stop CPS’ proposed closing of National Teachers Academy.

“Justice, fairness, and common sense have prevailed. I congratulate the tireless coalition that has been fighting for NTA and our children for the last 20 months.

“Families like those at NTA deserve a leader who will stand in solidarity and fight alongside them. Other major candidates in this race have shown their true colors through their failure to speak up about NTA. Even Toni Preckwinkle, a former teacher herself, has remained silent. As mayor, I’ll stand up for the needs of parents, kids, and teachers—not the big corporate interests or Emanuel administration’s handpicked Board of Education members who have failed our neighborhoods over and over again.

“CPS leadership, it’s time to accept the judge’s determination and move forward in cooperation with stakeholders. Don’t waste taxpayer dollars by appealing this decision—give it up and listen to families, for once.”
