Our Revolution Chicago endorsed Lori Lightfoot for mayor at a press conference Friday. Our Revolution Chicago is one of the largest grassroots progressive organizations in Illinois and a local chapter of the national organization, Our Revolution, that grew out of Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign. The endorsement comes after a survey of the membership.

Our Revolution Chicago highlighted Lori’s message of change as a core reason for the endorsement, and joins LiUNA Chicago, Plumbers Local 130, and State Representative Kelly Cassidy, among others, in endorsing Lightfoot in this week alone. The press conference was streamed live on Facebook.

“We are proud to endorse Lori Lightfoot for mayor of Chicago. It’s time for a fresh start, fresh ideas, and a fresh face. That’s Lori Lightfoot,” said Our Revolution Chicago President Clem Balanoff. “We need change to solve the many problems that we face, and we believe Lori Lightfoot will be the face for that change. Lori is smart, principled, and hardworking, and she will bring diverse interests together to help solve our city’s problems. We look forward to Lori Lightfoot being the next mayor of Chicago.”

“It’s my great pleasure to receive this important endorsement from Our Revolution Chicago,” Lightfoot said. “Groups like Our Revolution have been working hard in the grassroots to bring change and open up our system of government to achieve the policies that are important to working class people in our city. We need to keep working hard at the grassroots level, challenging ourselves to vote our values and vote for change. This is one of the most important moments in our history and we intend to do everything we can to bring about change. We have an opportunity to transform our city and I will work every single to make that opportunity a reality.”
