Today, UNITE HERE Local 1 endorsed Lori Lightfoot for mayor. UNITE HERE Local 1 represents more than 15,000 hospitality workers in airports, restaurants, cafeterias, stadiums, convention centers and casinos throughout Chicagoland and northwest Indiana. The endorsement comes as Lightfoot has maintained momentum in the final weeks, earning the support of key community leaders including the first Latino Illinois State Senator and former mayoral candidate Miguel del Valle, Comptroller Susana Mendoza, community activist Ja’Mal Green, the Illinois Nurses Association PAC, and Congressman Jesus “Chuy” García.
“I’m so proud to have the endorsement of UNITE HERE Local 1,” said Lightfoot. “UNITE HERE does essential work empowering the hospitality workers that truly make Chicago a world class city. As mayor, I look forward to partnering with UNITE HERE and working families across our city to fight for safe work conditions and living wages for all.”
“Lori Lightfoot and Chicago’s hospitality workers have something in common,” said UNITE HERE Local 1 President Karen Kent. “She and they know about real life. For us ‘Mayor Lightfoot’ has a nice ring to it.”
