We just wrapped up a hectic week, filled with important wins and some big challenges.

I’ll start with the bad news: COVID-19 is back on the rise in Chicago. This week, our case positivity rate is up to 3.6%—a 0.7% increase over last week. The biggest increases are among 18-39 year olds on the North Side, but the risk is everywhere. Folks, please remember: COVID-19 has not left us. We have to continue to be vigilant, wear masks, wash our hands, and keep our distance.

Now, for the good news: 1 in 4 Chicagoans has already had their first shot—and nearly 1 in 2 seniors. But there is much more work to do. If you’re eligible to be vaccinated, please visit www.zocdoc.com/vaccine to sign up for your appointment. If you know a senior who needs help signing up, please click here to learn more about how to assist them.

I’m beyond proud of our other major achievements this week:

  • We came through on my campaign promise to pass legislation that will lead to more accessible affordable housing for Chicagoans in every neighborhood.
  • We passed sweeping regulations to protect our environment and stop polluters from poisoning our air quality in Chicago.
  • We introduced a new ordinance to prevent bad employers from punishing workers who need to take time off to get vaccinated.

There’s so much more to be done, but we’re making progress every day. Thank you for standing with us and doing all that you can to protect yourself and your fellow Chicagoans through these difficult days. Together, I know we’ll get through to the other side.

Thank you,

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot
